COMING OUT OF RECESSION
OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE AMBITIOUS
A series of five conferences in England and Wales - November 2009
The LawGroupUK Conferences directly address key issues surrounding the changes to the legal marketplace.
Major forces for change in the legal market are creating a unique opportunity for solicitors with ambition to steal a march on their competitors.
The Legal Services Act [2007] has already paved the way for new entrants such as Banks, Insurers and Motoring Organisations; each of which is fronting the provision of legal services. The question has to be asked – “Why are institutions entering the legal market?”. A key reason must be that they see an industry that can make profits of up to 30%. This is a mouth-watering margin in the service industry sector and one that has yet to have the efficiencies of scale brought to bear.
The institutions have also recognised the evolution in client expectations and purchasing behaviour. The market trend is towards legal solutions (or products) rather than advice based services and clients are increasingly looking to access them online. In many ways, the web is becoming the new high street and organisations that do not move, at least in part, from the physical high street to the virtual high street will simply be left behind.
Like it or not, our market place is changing and firms need to build new strategies for survival and growth in this new world order.
The onward rush of new entrants into the legal marketplace has been temporarily slowed by the recession and conditions are right over the next year or so for solicitors to steal a march and gear up to compete. The timing for this opportunity is now but the window will not stay open for long.
